The Great One Coular, Norther Bridger Mountains July 2010

A Couple week ago myself and Kelsey made the drive to the Norther Bridger Mountains to ski one of the only Chutes in the greater Bozeman area that is ski-able year round, The Great One. This feature is so well know within the local ski community that a nearby brewery has named one of their beers after it, which is quite stout! The Chute descends through a rock face near Sacajawea Peak approximately 1500ft to the bowl below. The getting there requires a short three mile hike traversing the west side of Sacajawea peak with a short scramble down to the top of the chute. After dropping in and connecting the first couple of turns in the 4-6 inch of summer corn, one realizes that the funny looks and answering all the questions about carrying skis in the summer was totally worth it. Check out some of the pics and a really shaky video shot with a Canon SLR hanging around my chest.

  1. I am writing from the flattest state in the union, Illinois! Ugh. During the summer my sister and I used to ski Saint Mary's Glacier, above Idaho Springs in Colorado. Wacky sun tans were obtained-- brown, or red rings around our knees. The lake at the bottom of the glacier made the runs pretty exciting. Your photos appear to be from paradise.
    Rock on.
